Lidocaine is commonly used to relieve pain. It is added in low doses to topical creams and used intravenously in higher doses. This chemical forms a wide variety of crystal structures and colors. Quite often the crystals become iridescent like you see in the middle of this artwork.
Vanillin, commonly called baker’s vanilla, is used to add vanilla flavor to baked goods without adding color. When crystalized, it creates a variety of interesting structures and colors. And vanillin mixes well with some other chemicals to form even more unusual crystal structures.
